Gael of the Year

Anyone who has been to CYC’s or NYMB match, will instantly recognize Tom Quinn’s passion for Gaelic Football, Gaelic Games, St. Patrick’s and the GAA! In addition to lengthy career as a stand-out player, and his coaching and training duties of youth players at all levels, Tom has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to St. Patrick’s by serving in virtually every board officer position including Chairman, Vice Chairman, NYMB Delegate, Senior Delegate, and currently as the Club Development Officer.

Tom developed his love of Gaelic Football at the Rosemount GAA Club in County Westmeath and quickly stood out for his skillful and tenacious play at wing half back. Tom honed his playing skills with the Carmelite College in Moate, County Westmeath, and upon emigrating to New York in 1986, he was quickly recruited by the Cavan Gaelic Football Club of New York where they captured the County Senior Football Championship and Tom was recognized as the Player of the Year. This wouldn’t be his last NY County Championship or individual recognition! Tom subsequently joined the Westmeath Gaelic Football Club of New York where he Captained the Club to three County Championships including Junior B, Junior A, and the NY GAA Senior County Championship where he also received his 2nd Player of the Year award. All told, Tom added to his 4 County Championships and 2 Player of the Year Awards by being named to the NY GAA All Star team three times! Upon joining St. Patrick’s, Tom immediately contributed his deep playing experience to the Club’s developing senior team and joined the youth coaching ranks to mentor new and developing players, all the while instilling his deep love for Gaelic Football and the GAA.

In addition to honoring Tom, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to his wife Joanna, and children Morgan and Tommy. As the youth GAA, soccer, and hockey communities keenly know, Morgan and Tommy have clearly inherited Tom’s athleticism and determination to win! We also will welcome the extended Quinn family, Ann, Johnnie, PJ, and Bernadette, as we celebrate Tom’s lifetime of dedication and service to the GAA.

Player of the Year

The Player of the Year Award for the 2016 will be awarded to Chad Wade. Chad was instrumental to the St. Patrick’s Senior Team’s quest to capture the 2016 Junior NY GAA Championship. A loyal, veteran member of the St. Patrick’s Senior Team, Chad was critical to the Club’s success in the 2016 Junior B Championship quarterfinal and was an inspiring “on-the-field” leader in the team’s narrow semi-final defeat. Chad’s unselfish and courageous play served as a role model for his teammates and his Club. We are proud to recognize Chad with the 2016 Player of the Year honors!
